INTERIM FEDERAL SPECIFICATION
FLOOR COVERING TRANSLUCENT OR TRANSPARENT
VINYL SURFACE WITH BACKING
This Interim Federal Specification was developed by the Standardization
Division, Federal Supply Service, General Services Administration, Washington,
D.C. 20406, based upon currently available technical information. It is
recommended that Federal agencies use it in procurement and forward
recommendations for changes to the preparing activity at the address shown
above.
1. SCOPE AND CLASSIFICATION
1.1 Scope. This specification covers floor covering with a translucent
or transparent vinyl plastic wear layer with or without a layer of foam on an
organic, inorganic, or filled vinyl backing.
1.2 Classification. Floor covering shall be of the following types and
classes as specified (see 6.2).
Type I - Organic fiber backing treated with asphalt or other
moisture-resistant backing.
Type II - Filled vinyl backing.
Type III - Inorganic fiber backing saturated with alkali and
moisture-resistant materials.
Class - Wearing surface thickness, minimum, inch.
