SUBJECT: Department of the Air Force Guidance Memorandum to DAFMAN 11-401, Aviation
Management
By Order of the Secretary of the Air Force, this Department of the Air Force Guidance
Memorandum (DAFGM) immediately implements changes to Department of the Air Force
Manual (DAFMAN) 11-401, Aviation Management. Compliance with this memorandum is
mandatory. To the extent its directions are inconsistent with other Department of the Air Force
publications, the information herein prevails in accordance with DAFMAN 90-161, Publishing
Processes and Procedures.
The guidance changes in the attachment to this DAFGM (1) revise Chapter 2, Roles and
Responsibilities to provide definitions of three terms: Aircraft Grounding, Aircrew stand-down,
and Cancel Flying/Direct Operational Pause in; (2) incorporates the language from AFGM2022-
01 (8 June 22) changing para 10.11; (3) removes aircrew constraint on orientation flights for
spouses in Table 5.1, Item 13; and (4) updates Attachment 1. Glossary of References (Tab 2.).
This memorandum cancels DAFMAN11-401_AFGM2022-01, dated 8 Jun 2022, and
becomes void after one year has elapsed from the date of this memorandum, upon publication of
an interim change to, or rewrite of DAFMAN 11-401, whichever is earlier.
