This publication implements Department of the Air Force Policy1 Directive (DAFPD) 35-1,
Public Affairs Management; Title 10 United States Code Section 2260, Licensing of intellectual
property: retention of fees; Title 15 United States Code Sections 1051 through 1127, Trade-
Marks; and Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 5535.09, Department of Defense (DoD)
Branding and Trademark Licensing Program. This instruction applies to all civilians and
uniformed members of the United States Space Force, Regular Air Force, Air Force Reserve, and
Air National Guard. This instruction also applies to contractors when stated in the contract,
except where noted otherwise. The Department of Defense Instruction is printed word-for-word
in regular font without editorial review. Air Force supplementary material is printed in bold font
and indicated by “(Added) (AF).” This publication provides guidance related to Department of
the Air Force brand management, as directed by Headquarters Air Force (HAF) Mission
Directive (MD) 1-28, Director of Public Affairs. It includes guidance on the use of the various
United States Air Force and United States Space Force trademarks and indicia. Ensure all
records created as a result of processes prescribed in this publication are maintained in
accordance with Air Force Instruction (AFI) 33-322, Records Management and Information
Governance Program, and disposed of in accordance with the Air Force Records Disposition
Schedule located in the Air Force Records Information Management System. Refer
recommended changes and questions about this publication to the Office of Primary
Responsibility (OPR) using the AF Form 847, Recommendation for Change of Publication, and
route AF Form 847s from the field through the appropriate functional chain of command. This
publication may be supplemented at any level, but all supplements must be routed to the OPR of
