This Air Force policy directive establishes policy and responsibilities for the Exceptional Family
Member Program and implements DoDI 1315.19, The Exceptional Family Member Program.
This publication applies to all Air Force personnel including the Regular Air Force, the Air Force
Reserve, and the Air National Guard on activated Title 10 status. Air National Guard personnel
on Title 32 status must use the following guidance unless otherwise directed by state law. In
collaboration with the Chief of Air Force Reserve (AF/RE) and the Director of the Air National
Guard (NGB/CF), the Deputy Chief of Staff, Manpower, Personnel and Services (AF/A1)
develops personnel policy for the Exceptional Family Member Program. This publication may
not be supplemented. Ensure all records created as a result of processes prescribed in this
publication are maintained in accordance with Air Force Manual 33-363, Management of
Records, and disposed of in accordance with the Air Force Records Disposition Schedule located
in the Air Force Records Information Management System. Refer recommended changes and
questions about this publication to the Office of Primary Responsibility using Air Force Form
847, Recommendation for Change of Publication; route Air Force Form 847s from the field
through the appropriate functional chain of command.
SUMMARY OF CHANGES
This document has been substantially revised and needs to be completely reviewed. Major
changes include alignment with updated Department of Defense guidance, removal of procedural
information more appropriate for implementing guidance, and substantial edits for clarity and
readability.
