This mission directive (MD) implements policy and guidance in Air Force Instruction (AFI) 38-
101, Manpower and Organization. Its purpose is to prescribe unit mission, command relationship,
and responsibilities of the Twelfth Air Force (12 AF) Air Forces Southern (AFSOUTH). This MD
applies to 12 AF (AFSOUTH) and subordinate active duty units and personnel, those assigned or
attached Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) and Air National Guard (ANG) units, and
personnel or mobilized members performing federal missions. Ensure that all records created as
a result of processes prescribed in this publication are maintained in accordance with (IAW) AFI
33-322, Records Management and Information Governance Program, and disposed of IAW the
Air Force Records Information Management System Records Disposition Schedule. Refer
recommended changes and questions about this publication to the Office of Primary Responsibility
(OPR) using AF Form 847, Recommendation for Change of Publication; route AF Forms 847 from
the field through the appropriate functional chain of command. HQ ACC/A3 is the waiver
authority for compliance items in this publication. This publication may not be supplemented.

1. Mission. The 12 AF (AFSOUTH) mission is to plan, prioritize, execute, assess, and support
joint all-domain operations, activities, and investments to influence relevant actors in order to
mitigate risk to global U.S. interests, strengthen our regional partners, and counter threats in the
United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) area of responsibility (AOR). As the air
component, 12 AF (AFSOUTH) has Service administrative responsibility for all assigned and/or
apportioned airmen in the USSOUTHCOM AOR; develops plans for air, space, cyber and
