This instruction implements Air Force Policy Directive 36-26, Total Force Development and
Management. It establishes procedures for Air Force (AF) maintenance training and provides a
framework for developing training for aircraft, munitions, and missile maintenance. It is applicable
to Regular Air Force, Air Force Reserve (AFR), Air National Guard (ANG), and Air Force Civilian
maintenance personnel. Use this instruction with Air Force Instruction (AFI) 36-2651, Air Force
Training Program. Major Commands (MAJCOM) may supplement this instruction. Supplements
must identify required deviations (DEV) (applicability, variance, and/or differences in
organizational placement of responsibilities/processes) on the supplement with the abbreviation
“(DEV).” Place the “DEV” entry after the paragraph number and directly preceding the affected
text, for example (AMC). All supplements and addendums shall be submitted to AF/A4L for
approval. Refer recommended changes and questions about this publication to the Office of
Primary Responsibility (OPR) using the AF Form 847, Recommendation for Change of
Publication; route AF Form 847 from the field through the appropriate functional chain of
