Comparison of MIL-HDBK-516C and MIL-
HDBK-516B Expanded
- This compares MIL-HDBK-516C to MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded, not MIL-HDBK-516B Change
1, since the USAF had been using MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded for several years.
- To serve as an "index" there are paragraph number columns that show only the section
number for each section and subsection MIL-HDBK-516C and MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded.
- A "Change Severity" column provides a "quick-look" assessment of the changes to a criteria as
No Change, Minor, or Substantial as follows:
- No Change: Each element (Criterion, Standard, Method of Compliance) has
either no change or only administrative and grammatical corrections.
- Minor Change: Any changes (e.g. relocation or new paragraph number,
rewording or non-technical edit, logical extension of criteria (as in to UAS),
rearranged Standard & Method of Compliance) such that the 516B Expanded
Criterion, Standard, and Method of Compliance remain valid for 516C. These
changes may not require the program to do more to satisfy demonstrate
compliance under 516C than they did under 516B Expanded.
- Substantial Change: Any change (e.g. technical change to Criterion, new
elements in Standard or Method of Compliance, new Criterion, merging of Criteria)
such that the 516B Exp Criterion, Standard, or Method of Compliance are no
longer valid or sufficient in 516C. These changes may require the program to do
more to satisfy demonstrate compliance under 516C than they did under 516B
Expanded.
- There is also a column of cross-reference comments to help follow the MIL-HDBK-516C - MIL-
HDBK-516B Expanded comparison.
Tab "Summary of Changes helps to provide a quick overview of Change Severity within MIL-
HDBK-516C from MIL-HDBK-516B expanded
