FEDERAL STANDARD
TIRSS , PNEUNATIC , VEHICULAR (HIGsWAY LIGHT TRUCK)
Authority.
This standard is issued pursuant to the
Federal Property and Administrative Services Act of
1949, as amended, and its application to the pur-
chase of commodities referred to herein is mandatory
on all Federal agencies.
S1.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE.
This standard establishes a standard tire sl Ze
With a
specific ply” rati”ng which will replace:
(a) Tire sizes with a lesser
ply rating.
(k)
smaller tire sizes with the same ply rating.
Its purpose is to achieve greater economy through the reduction
of line items and
the identification in which these line items are used.
This standard is applicable to
replacement tires only and not for tires involved
in vehicle procurement.

Table 1 shm.w the standard tire size with a
specific ply rating and
the replaced smaller tire Sizes with the same ply ratin9 and the
tire sizes with a lesser ply rating.
S2. APPL1CATION .
Purchase
of tires from commercial sources shall be limited to
the tire size and Ply rating specified in Table 1.

date of invitation for bids or request for proposal, form a part of this stsndard to the
extent specified herein.

S3. CSANGES . When a Federal agency considers that this standard does not provide
for its essential needs, written request for changing or adding to the standard supported
hy adequate justification shall be submitted in duplicate to the
Automotive Standards
;i&ion, Federal Supply Service, General Services Administration, Washington, D.C.
This justification shall explain wherein the standard does not provide for
essential needs.
The General Services Administration will determine the appropriate
action to be taken and wi 11 notify the agency.
