MILITARY SPECIFICATION
AIR REFUELING SYSTEMS, GENERAL SPECIFICATION FOR
This amendment forms a part of Military Specifcation MIL-A-19736A(WP)
of 5 August 1960 and has been approved by the Bureau of naval Weapons,
Departmemt of the Navy.
Page 7 Paragraph 3.5.4 Add the following sentences at end:
The fuel scheduling counter shall be easily operated to set the quantity
of fuel to be transferred. Manual cranks shall not be employed. As a
design objective, time required to set the fuel scheduling counter from
zero to any desired reading shall not exceed ten second. Failure of
the fuel scheduling mechanism shall not affect operation of the additive
counter which indicates the quantity of fuel that has been transferred.
Page 11 Paragraph 3.15.3 Change to read: "Strength: Probe strength
shall be in accordance with specification MIL-A-8865. Retractable probes
shall be capable of extension and retraction at the cruise speed of the
aircraft and shall be capable of remaining extended at the cruise speed
of the aircraft.
Page 12 Add paragraph 3.15.4.1 Emergency Extended:
Retractable probes
shall be provided with an emergency extension system. This system may be
a "one shot" system but must be positively locked in the extended position.
The emergency extend system shall not utilize the same power supply system
utiilized for normal extension. The switch which sets the fuel system to
accept air refueling shall not be tied to the emergency extend system in a
way which would preclude returning the fuel system to its normal transfer
operations. The emergency extend system shall be capable of being operated
individually and not be dependent on emergency operation of other systems
such as gear down.
