FASTENER, ROTARY, QUICK-OPERATING, HIGH-STRENGTH
This amendment forms a part of MIL-F-22978A, dated 20 August 1962, and is approved by all Department
and Agencies of the Department of Defense.

“Beneficial comments (recommendations, additions and deletions) and any pertinent data which may be used
in improving this document should be addressed to: The Defense Industrial Supply Center (CODE DISC- ),
700 Robbins Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111-5096 by using the Standardization Document Improvement
Proposed (DD Form 1425) appearing at the end of this document or by letter.”
Add distribution statement as follows:
“DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited.”

Replace paragraph 3.1 with the following paragraph:
“3.1 Qualification. The manufacturer shall be responsible for conducting qualification tests and
furnishing part drawings, certified qualification test reports (if required by the purchaser) and test samples.
The fasteners furnished under this specification shall be produced using the same manufacturing methods as
used to produce fasteners that have passed qualification tests. The purchaser may apply any or all tests
specified herein to any product represented as meeting this specification, at any time, to verify conformance.”

Replace paragraph 4.3.1 with the following:
4.3.1 Qualification samples. The qualification test samples shall consist of 14 type I flush head
fasteners in the following sizes. Seven of the –2 size, two of the –5 size, and five of the –9 size. Test samples
shall be of the same material and manufactured by same method as production parts.
Delete paragraph 4.3.2.
