The generator, exciter andvol~e regulator com-
bi&tion (using any convenient prime mover) shall be subjected to six consecutive starting
opemtias @
demonstrate the ability of these electrical components to provide positive voltage build-up of generator
terminal voltaqe. The initial starting operation shall be conducted as foU”ows:
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
(e)
(f)
S& voltage regulator control *ttih in”mtomatic position.
Set the automatic voltage adjusting rheostat to obtain rated, no load generator termi-
nal voltage when operating at rated speed and leave in this position for the duration
of this test.
Start the prime mover and record the time, h seconds, required for the generator
to produce rated voltage at the generator terminals.
With the unit operating at rated voltage under automatic voltage control, turn the
manual control rheostat to the extreme lower position. The rheostat skU be”left
at this position for the remzdnder of the test.
Turn the regulator control switch to manual position and allow the voltage to
decrease to its minimum value.
Shut down the unit. After the unit has been secured return the reuulator control
switch to the automatic position in preparation for the next stariing cycle.
Complete the remaining starting cycles,
five, in the same manner recording the time required for volt-
age to build-up during each start.
The time required Q produce full voltage at the generator terminals
during any starting cycle shall not exceed the value spegifled In 3.9.7. Prior to, and immediately after
completion of this test the inherent residual voltage of the exciter shall be measured and recorded, with
all exciter brushes seated, while operating at approximately rated speed. All data taken during this test
shall be incorporated in the test reports. “
