MILITARY SPECIFICATION
MAGNETIC INSPECTION UNITS
This specificationis mandatory for use by all Depart-
ments and Agencies of the Department of Defense.
1.
sCOPE
1.1 *. This specificationcovers stationary,mobile, and portable equip-
ment suitable for use in the magnetic-particleinspection of item and parts
made of magnetic materials.
1.2 Classification.
The magnetic ins ection units shall be of the.following

types and sizes, ag specified (see 6.2 .

Horizontal, wet-method equipment, in which the high-amperage
magnetizing current is alternating current (AC) and full-wave
rectified current obtained from a 3-pha9e AC power source.
Mobile equipment 3000 amperes (amp), L-wheel, in tiich the
high-amperagemagnetizing current is AC and half-wave rectified
current obtained from a single-phaseAC power source.
Portable equipnent, 750 amp, in which the high-mperage mag-
netizing current is AC and half-wave rectified current
obtained from single-phaseAC ~wer source.
Mobile equipnent, 6000 amp, L-tieel, in tiich the high-amperage
magnetizing current is AC and full-wave rectified current
obtained from a 3-phase AC power eource.
