SHIPBOARD USE
This specification is approved for use by the Naval Sea Systems Command and is
available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense,

SCOPE
1.1 Scope.
This specification covers the requirements for 60-hertz (Hz) , three-phase,
integral-horsepower (hp) , alternating current (a.c.) motors for shipboard use.
1.2 Classification.
Motors shall be of the following services, as specified (see
6.1.1)
Service A -
For applications where motors are essential to the military
effectiveness of a ship.
Service C - For applications where motors are not essential to the military
effectiveness of a ship.
