SUBJECT: Air Force Guidance Memorandum to AFI 36-2504, Officer Promotion, Continuation,
and Selective Early Removal in the Reserve of the Air Force
By Order of the Secretary of the Air Force, this Air Force Guidance Memorandum
immediately changes AFI 36-2504, Officer Promotion, Continuation, and Selective Early Removal in
the Reserve of the Air Force. Compliance with this Memorandum is mandatory. To the extent its
directions are inconsistent with other Department of the Air Force publications, the information
herein prevails, in accordance with DAFMAN90-161, Publication Processes and Procedures.
This publication has been developed in collaboration with the Chief of Air Force Reserve
(AF/RE), the Director of the Air National Guard, (NGB/CF), and the Deputy Chief of Staff for
Manpower, Personnel and Services (AF/A1). This Air Force publication may be supplemented at
any level, but all supplements that directly implement this publication must be routed to the office of
primary responsibility for coordination; MAJCOM/FLDCOM-level supplements must be approved
by SAF/MR’s Human Resource Management Strategic Board prior to certification and approval.
The attachment to this memorandum reissues previously approved guidance from AFI36-
2504_AFGM2022-01 dated 10 May 22 and implements guidance on conducting Air Reserve
Component (ARC) Special Selection Review Boards.
The directions of this memorandum become void after one-year has elapsed from the date of
this memorandum, or upon incorporation of an interim change to, or rewrite of AFI 36-2504,
whichever is earlier.
