SUBJECT: Department of the Air Force Guidance Memorandum (DAFGM) to Air Force
Instruction (AFI) 48-109, Electromagnetic Field Radiation (EMFR) Occupational
and Environmental Health Program.
By Order of the Secretary of the Air Force, this Department of the Air Force Guidance
Memorandum immediately redesignates AFI 48-109, Electromagnetic Field Radiation (EMFR)
Occupational and Environmental Health Program, as a Department of the Air Force Instruction
(DAFI) and implements changes to reflect updated policy to maintain compliance and enable
efficiencies in managing required EMFR inventories. Compliance with this Instruction is
mandatory. To the extent its directions are inconsistent with other Department of the Air Force
publications, the information herein prevails, in accordance with Department of the Air Force
Instruction (DAFI) 90-160, Publications and Forms Management.
This publication applies to civilian employees and uniformed members of the Regular Air
Force, United States Space Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard. Specific changes
are listed in the attachment; the paragraphs listed replace or update the corresponding paragraphs
within AFI 48-109.
The Memorandum becomes void after one-year has elapsed from the date of this
Memorandum, or upon incorporation of an Interim Change to, or rewrite of DAFI 48-109,
whichever is earlier.
