SUBJECT: Department of the Air Force Guidance Memorandum (DAFGM) to Department of
the Air Force Instruction (DAFI) 48-137, Respiratory Protection Program.
By Order of the Secretary of the Air Force, this Department of the Air Force Guidance
Memorandum immediately redesignates AFI 48-137, Respiratory Protection Program, as a
Department of the Air Force Instruction (DAFI) and implements changes to reflect updated
method by which personnel can conduct self-guided CBRN gas mask fit-testing and provide
results to UDM without Bioenvironmental Engineering manning requirements. Compliance with
this Instruction is mandatory. To the extent its directions are inconsistent with other Department
of the Air Force publications, the information herein prevails, in accordance with Air Force
Instruction (DAFI) 90-160, Publications and Forms Management.
This publication is applicable to the entire DAF, including all DAF civilian employees, all
uniformed members of the Regular Air Force (RegAF), United States Space Force, Air Force
Reserve and Air National Guard, and those with a contractual obligation to abide by the terms of
DAF issuances. Specific changes are listed in the attachment; the paragraphs listed replace or
update the corresponding paragraphs within AFI 48-137.
The Memorandum becomes void after one-year has elapsed from the date of this
Memorandum, or upon incorporation of an Interim Change to, or rewrite of DAFI 48-137,
whichever is earlier.
