This Directive implements the following statutes for the Air Force Medical Service and its
activities in medical care worldwide: Department of Defense (DoD) Instruction 1322.24,
Medical Readiness Training; DoD Instruction 2310.08, Medical Program Support for Detainee
Operations; DoD Instruction 6000.15, Joint Medical Executive Skills Development Program;
DoD Instruction 6010.20, Admission Procedures For The Uniformed Services University of the
Health Sciences (USUHS); DoD Instruction 6010.23, DoD and Department of Veteran Affairs
(VA) Healthcare Resource Sharing Program; DoD Instruction 6010.7, Admission Policies for the
Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences; DoD Instruction 6015.24, Sizing of
Graduate Medical Education (GME) and Program Closure Procedures; DoD Instruction 6490.3,
Deployment Health. This Directive establishes Air Force Medical Service policy for appropriate
utilization of people and resources and to ensure Air Force medical personnel are trained and
equipped to deliver optimal care in support of the full spectrum of military operations. This
Directive applies to all Air Force Medical Service personnel who deliver healthcare program and
resource support in active duty medical treatment facilities, Air Force Reserve Medical Units,
Air National Guard Medical Groups, Aeromedical Evacuation Squadrons, communities, and
deployed locations. Refer recommended changes and questions about this publication to the
Office of Primary Responsibility using the AF Form 847, Recommendation for Change of
Publication; route Air Force Forms 847 from the field through appropriate functional’ s chain of
command. Ensure that all records created as a result of processes prescribed in this publication
are maintained in accordance with Air Force Manual 33-363, Management of Records, and
disposed of in accordance with Air Force Records Information Management System, and
Records Disposition Schedule. The authorities to waive wing/unit level requirements in this
publication are identified with a Tier (“T-0, T-1, T-2, T-3”) number following the compliance
