SUBJECT: Department of the Air Force Guidance Memorandum to DAFI 36-2903, Dress and Personal
Appearance of United States Air Force and United States Space Force Personnel
This Department of the Air Force Guidance Memorandum immediately implements changes to
DAFI 36-2903, Dress and Personal Appearance of United States Air Force Personnel. Compliance with
this guidance memorandum is mandatory. To the extent the guidance memorandum’s directions are
inconsistent with other Department of the Air Force publications, the information herein prevails, in
accordance with DAFMAN 90-161, Publishing Processes and Procedures. This guidance memorandum
is applicable to the Regular Air Force, United States Space Force (USSF), Air Force Reserve, and Air
National Guard, except as noted in following paragraphs.
The attached guidance changes include: 1) designates Child and Youth Program facilities as “no-
hat, no-salute areas, 2) authorizes beverage consumption while walking in uniform, 3) authorizes wear of
cold weather headbands, 4) authorizes explosive ordinance disposal personnel wear of two-piece flight
duty uniform, 5) authorizes organizational emblem on the back of morale shirt, 6) authorizes any size
logos on gym bag, additional color back pack and small logo on handbags, 7) authorizes OCP patrol cap
or tactical cap to be worn with flight duty uniform, 8) authorizes heritage morale patch on flight duty
uniform, 9) eliminates authorization for color morale shirts to be worn with the flight duty uniform, 10)
authorizes purchase of commercial cold weather outerwear, 11) authorize up to four occupational,
qualification or skill badges on the OCP uniform (Note: Applies to USAF only.), and 12) reissues
policy from prior guidance memorandum, updates to tattoo/brands/body markings.
Ensure all records created as a result of processes prescribed in this publication are maintained in
accordance with AFI 33-322, Records Management and Information Governance Program, and disposed
of in accordance with the Air Force Records Disposition Schedule (RDS) located in the Air Force
Records Management System.
This Memorandum becomes void after one year has elapsed from the date of this memorandum,
or upon incorporation into existing policy via rewrite or interim change, or rescission of the affected
publication, whichever is earlier.
