This new mission directive reflects the transfer and creation of responsibilities associated with
the stand-up of a new and separate Deputy Chief of Staff (DCS), Strategy, Integration, and
Requirements (AF/A5) effective October 12, 2018. Refer recommended changes and questions
about this publication to the Office of Primary Responsibility using the AF Form 847,
Recommendation for Change of Publication. Route AF Form 847s from field units through the
appropriate functional chain of command. Ensure all records created as a result of processes
prescribed in this publication are maintained in accordance with Air Force Manual 33-363,
Management of Records, and disposed of in accordance with the Air Force Records Disposition
Schedule located in the Air Force Records Information Management System.
Attachment 1 of this publication delineates the authorities and responsibilities delegated to
AF/A5 by the Secretary of the Air Force (SecAF), including those transferred and reassigned
from the former DCS Strategic Plans and Requirements (AF/A5/8), Deputy Under Secretary of
the Air Force, International Affairs (SAF/IA), and the former Chief Information Officer
(SAF/CIO A6). Attachment 2 of this publication outlines the revised organizational structure,
including the roles and responsibilities of subordinate AF/A5 Directorates.
1. Mission. The AF/A5 authority resides in Title 10 United States Code (USC) §§ 9031-38, and
is documented by paragraph 4.4.3 of Air Force Mission Directive-1, Headquarters Air Force,
