AIR ASSAULT INFANTRY BATTALION DUTY DESCRIPTIONS
Battalion Commander:
Commander of an Air Assault Infantry Battalion of 800 men and, when so
organized, a combined arms air assault task force that must be prepared to deploy
within 36 hours, to conduct air assault operations, and fight and win upon arrival
on the battle field. Responsible for ensuring the deployment and combat readiness
of the battalion task force through the development and execution of rigorous
training, maintenance, and Soldier support programs; for maintaining the high
state of physical fitness, discipline, morale, and esprit essential to mission
accomplishment; and for managing resources to accomplish the aforementioned
tasks. Plan and allocate resources to maintain operational readiness. Develop
policies, procedures, and systems to take care of Soldiers and their Families. Lead
by example and set tough realistic standards to maintain a combat ready force.
Battalion XO:
Executive Officer of a 800 man Air Assault Infantry Battalion comprised of
infantry, anti-armor, mortars, and support elements. Directs, coordinates, trains
and supervises the battalion staff. Establishes staff operating procedures, integrates
and synchronizes battlefield operation systems to ensure that the battalion is
prepared to fight and win. Manages the commander's CCIR, oversees current
operations in the Tactical Operations Center, and supervises the Sustainment Cell
Operations Center. Responsible for coordinating battalion activities internally and
externally to ensure that the staff supports subordinate unit commanders. Serves as
second in command and as the battalion material readiness officer. Ensures that all
battalion equipment and personnel are prepared to alert, marshal, deploy, and
sustain the battalion.
Battalion S-1:
Battalion Adjutant of an Air Assault Battalion with a strength of 800 men, capable
of deploying worldwide within 36 hours. Responsible to the commander for all
matters. Acts as the Battalion Commanders liaison for all formal/social functions.
Exercises primary staff supervision over administration and personnel
management. Implement personnel policies, supervise Battalion PAC, oversee
management of SIDPERS, UMR, Meal Cards, Publications, OERs, NCOERs,
Correspondence, Finance, Leave, Legal, and Postal Operations. Additionally,
exercises coordinating staff responsibilities over human relations, equal
opportunity, recreation service, publicity, medical service, reenlistment, safety,
drug/alcohol program and mail room. Responsible for the training, discipline,
morale, and welfare of a ten man PAC section.
