Page 3, paragraph 7.b.(4), sentence 1, should read: “If there is a need for other structural
evaluations, the district Bridge Safety Program Manager (BSPM) must determine the scope, and
the evaluation will be conducted according to applicable FHWA, American Railway Engineering
and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA), or American Association of State Highway
and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) guidelines.”
Page 9, paragraph 9.c., sentence 1, should read: "The district BSPM must be a structural
engineer, be a licensed professional engineer, have at least five years of experience in bridge
inspections, evaluations, design, maintenance, and construction (inspection experience must
predominate) and have successfully completed an FHWA-approved comprehensive bridge
inspection training course."
Page 10, paragraph 9.e.(2), sentence 1, should read: “The district BSPM will designate the
RBE.”
Page 11, paragraph 9.e.(3), sentence 1, should read: “The district BSPM will designate railroad
bridge inspectors.”
Page 11, paragraph 9.e.(3), sentence 3, delete: “The inspector will be designated to authorize or
restrict use of a bridge.”
Page 11, paragraph 9.e.(3), sentence 5, should read: “"Inspectors should be familiar with the
relevant aspects of 49 CFR 214, Railroad Workplace Safety,” Subparts A, B, and C.”
Page 11, paragraph 9.e.(4), sentence 1, delete: “The BSP M will designate railroad bridge
supervisors.”
Page 16, paragraph 12.f., sentence 1 should read: "The standard 24-month inspection interval
may be increased for bridges if past inspection reports as well as favorable experience and
analysis justify the increase."
