Chris Green Joins IDA as Vice President, Center for Communications
and Computing
ALEXANDRIA, VA (December 2024) — Chris Green joined the IDA team January 13, 2025, as
the Vice President, Center for Communications and Computing (CCC).
“I am delighted to welcome Chris to IDA’s leadership team and to have him lead our centers,”
said IDA President Norty Schwartz.
In his new role, Chris will develop and oversee the strategy and operations of the three research
centers within CCC: the Center for Communications Research in La Jolla, California; the Center
for Communications Research in Princeton, New Jersey; and the Center for Computing
Sciences in Bowie, Maryland.
Chris came to IDA from the National Security Agency (NSA), where he served as the Technical
Director, Engagement and Policy Directorate. In this role, he worked to advance and integrate
essential NSA activities, including policy and compliance, corporate communications,
engagement with national and foreign partners and delivery of intelligence products and
services. Chris led efforts with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and Intelligence
Community partners in advancing key foreign partnerships in counter aggressive adversaries.
He previously served as the NSA/Central Security Service representative to Afghanistan, where
he was responsible for all aspects of NSA’s operations in country, directing cryptologic
operations supporting a myriad of military and diplomatic missions. Prior to his tour in
Afghanistan, Chris served as the deputy director of NSA’s Research Directorate, where he
worked with industry, academia and mission partners to create breakthroughs in mathematics,
science and engineering. Chris was also the director of the Laboratory for Telecommunication
Sciences, where he directed research activities in computer network operations, wireless
technologies and telecommunications infrastructure.
Chris holds a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from John Hopkins
University and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland.
