REISSUANCE AND PURPOSE
Under the authority vested in the Secretary of Defense by sections 113, 191, and 193 of
Reference (a), this Directive reissues Reference (b) to update the mission, responsibilities,
functions, relationships, and authorities of the DISA, under the Assistant Secretary of Defense
for Networks and Information Integration/DoD Chief Information Officer (ASD(NII)/DoD CIO).
2.
APPLICABILITY AND SCOPE
2.1. This Directive applies to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Military
Departments, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Office of
the Inspector General of the Department of Defense, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field
Activities, and all other organizational entities in the Department of Defense (hereafter referred
to collectively as the “DoD Components”). The term “Military Services,” as used herein, refers
to the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, and the Marine Corps.
2.2. This Directive does not alter or supersede existing authorities such as that of the
Director of National Intelligence and policies in public law, Executive Order, and regulation
regarding the protection of Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and special access
programs for intelligence.
