Pur:pose. To publish the mission, functions and tasks
of
the Supervisors
of
Shipbuilding,
Conversion and Repair
(SUPSHIP), as required
by
reference (a).
2. Cancellation. NA
VSEAINST 5450.36B
3. Background. The four Supervisors
of
Shipbuilding execute their mission at their assigned
contractors' facilities in the following locations:
SUPSHIP Bath, Bath, Maine, with detachments
in Marinette, Wisconsin and
San Diego, California; SUPSHIP Groton, Groton, Connecticut;
SUPS HIP Newport News, Newport News, Virginia; and SUPS HIP
Gulf
Coast, Pascagoula,
Mississippi, with a detachment
in
Mobile, Alabama. These activities serve as the Department
of
Defense (DoD) designated contract administration office (CAO) and are responsible for
performing all contract administration services (CAS), as delineated in reference (b), for all
DoD
contracts awarded to assigned contractors at the contractors' facilities.
The
SUPSHIPs are
uniquely positioned to provide independent oversight and ensure quality ships and submarines
are delivered to the fleet.
4. Mission.
The
mission
of
the SUPSHIPs is to independently administer and manage the
execution
of
DoD contracts awarded to assigned commercial entities at the contractors' facilities
in the shipbuilding and ship repair industry.
5.
Status and Command Relationships. SUPSHIPs are echelon 3 shore activities in an active
status under a Commanding Officer.
