1.
Purpose. This instruction implements a Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement
(DFARS) requirement for agencies to consider corrosion prevention in acquisition plans and to
establish reference (a)
as
the guideline for corrosion prevention and control (CPC) planning for
Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) programs. This revision communicates the updated
requirement for programs to document corrosion planning in the Systems Engineering Plan
(SEP) and the Life Cycle Sustainment Plan (LCSP). Corrosion prevention must be considered
throughout the entire life cycle
of
a program from acquisition planning through disposal because
of
its large impact on total ownership costs. The Instruction provides direction and guidance for
CPC for NA VSEA and affiliated programs and ensures collaboration between technical and
programmatic authorities on CPC efforts.

3. Scope and Applicability. This instruction applies to all Acquisition Category (ACAT)
programs from concept to disposal.
