1. REISSUANCE AND PURPOSE
Under the authority vested in the Secretary of Defense by sections 113 and 133 of reference (a),
this Directive:
1.1. Reissues reference (b) to update the responsibilities, functions, relationships, and
authorities of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics
(USD(AT&L)).
1.2. Authorizes the USD(AT&L), as a Principal Staff Assistant reporting directly to the
Secretary of Defense, to promulgate DoD policy in DoD Instructions within the responsibilities,
functions, and authorities assigned herein.
1.3. Authorizes the USD(AT&L) to reissue, as necessary, the chartering DoD Directives for
the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Technology (DUSD(A&T)), the
Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Logistics and Materiel Readiness (DUSD(L&MR)), the
