Subj: POLAR ICEBREAKER CRUISE REPORTS
Ref: (a) Polar Icebreaker Cruise Reports, Coast Guard Tactics, Techniques and Procedures
(TTP) 3-76.1
1. PURPOSE. This Instruction requires commanding officers of polar icebreakers to submit
Cruise Reports after each deployment to the Arctic or the Antarctic. Reference (a) provides
actionable, step-by-step procedures regarding Cruise Reports for required deployments.
2. ACTION. All Coast Guard unit commanders, commanding officers, officers-in-charge,
deputy/assistant commandants and chiefs of headquarters staff elements shall comply with
the provisions of this Instruction. Internet release is authorized.
3. DIRECTIVES AFFECTED. Polar Icebreaker Cruise Reports, COMDTINST 16155.2B, is
canceled.
4. DISCUSSION.
a. Icebreaker cruise reports provide information vital to program success. They provide
firsthand information on these specialized areas of ship and ice operations to operational
commanders and headquarters program managers to help them with program
management and answering queries from Congress, the Administration and the public.
The cruise reports also help build a library of historical ship operations over many years
and provide future crew members a database of corporate knowledge.
b. Polar Icebreaker Cruise Reports, as required by this Instruction, satisfy the cruise
reporting requirements for all deployments under both Coast Guard and Department of
Defense Operational Control (OPCON).
5. PROCEDURES.
a. Commanding officers of polar icebreakers shall submit a final Cruise Report
electronically to the operational commander and Commandant (CG-WWM-3), with
information copies to entities listed in Appendix B of Reference (a), within 30 days of
