MILITARY SPECIFICATION
PAINT, UNDERWATER HULL, ANTICORROSION
(METRIC)
This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of
the Department of I.)efense.
1.
SCOPE
1.1 Scope.
This specification covers anticorrosion coating systems for
application on
steel or aluminum underwater hull surfaces underneath Navy
antifouling coatings.
1.2 Classification.
Coating systems shall be of the following types,
classes and grades (see 6-2.1):
Type I -
Type 11 -
Type III -
Class 1 -
Class 2 –
Class 3 -
Class 4 -
Grade A -
Grade B -
Two component epoxy system.
Two component polyurethane system.
One component solvent evaporation system.
Curing range above 31 degrees Celsius (“C)
(87 degrees Fahrenheit (“F)).
Curing range 11 to 30”C (51 to 86°F).
Curing range 1 to 10”C (33 to 50”F).
Curing range below O“C (32°F).
Coatings with a solids content of 50 percent
by volume minimum.
Coatings with a solids content of 80 percent
by volume minimum.
