FEDERAL SPECIFICATION
GENERATOR SETS, DIESEL ENGINE,
ALTERNATING CURRENT, FOR FACILITIES CONSTRUCTION;
10 KW THROUGH 1000 KW

This specification is approved by the Commissioner, Federal
Supply Service, General Services Administration, for the use
of all Federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This specification covers the requirements for diesel engine
driven, alternating current (AC), electric generator sets to be used in
construction projects, and for the replacement of generator sets in existing
installations which are used to supply standby, or prime power service. The
generator sets are not intended to be stocked or supported from stock in the
supply system.
1.2 Classification. The generator sets will be of the following types
styles, classes, voltage ratings, and sizes, as specified (see 6.2):
Type I - Standby power - 10 to 1000 kilowatts (kW), (see 6.4.1)
Type II - Prime power - 100 to 1000 kW, (see 6.4.2)
Style A - Self-contained generator set (see 6.4.3)
Style B - Fixed installation generator set (see 6.4.4)
Class 1 - Single generator set operation
Class 2 - Parallel generator set operation
