FEDERAL SPECIFICATION
CONTROLLERS, BOILER-FEED WATER, AUTOMATIC
This specification is approved by the Commissioner, Federal Supply Service,
General Services Administration, for the use of all Federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This specification covers controllers, consisting of some
combination of one or more sensing devices, a flow method or device, and the
necessary ancillary components to complete the system, that provide for
automatic and independent control of the flow of feed water to boilers
operating at steam pressures up to 1,500 pounds per square inch gage (psig)
(10,341 kilopascals (kPa) gage) inclusive.
1.2 Classification. Boiler-feed water controllers, covered by this
specification, are of the following types, classes, and styles, as specified
(see 6.2).
Type I - Feed water flow control valve regulation
Class 1 - Single element, direct-operated
Style 1 - Thermo-mechanical or thermo-hydraulic, inclined tube drum
level sensing element
Style 2 - Float-type drum level sensing element
