MILITARY STANDARD
SHIPBOARD GUIDED MISSILE LAUNCHING SYSTEM
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS, MINIMUM
To all holders of MIL-STD-1658(OS):
1. Make the following pen and ink changes to MIL-STD-3658(OS) of
15 May 1974:
a. Page 4, paragraph 5.5, line 2: Delete “be 1”.
b.
Page 5, paragraph 5.11: Delete entirely and add the note
"See Notice 1 of 6 September 1974 for revised paragraph 5.11” to reference
the following revised paragraph 5.11:
5.11 A system shall be provided for the launcher which restricts
pointing of the missile to only those "safe zones” within which the
launched missile would safely clear ship superstructure and installations.
The firing circuit shall be interrupted if the missile is pointing outside
the “safe zones”.

Retain this Notice page and insert before the Table of Contents of
MIL-STD-1658(OS) of 15 May 1974.

Holders of MIL-STD-1658(OS) will verify that pages have been changed
as indicated above. This Notice is a separate publication. Each Notice
is to be retained by stocking points until MIL-STD-1658 is revised or can-
celled, as Notices are not cumulative.
