BACKGROUND
This report synthesizes a 72-hour crowdsourced brainstorming exercise where over 50 Wikistrat analysts from
around the world analyzed what might lead to the next military intervention by the United States.
At the beginning of August 2013, Wikistrat’s community of analysts came together for a 72-hour
brainstorming session in which analysts discussed specic hotspots where the United States may be inclined
to deploy ground troops in a military intervention. Over 350 comments involving 45 different hotspots were
generated; in sum, they provided a wealth of options and questions that will have to be addressed before any
future intervention by the U.S. military.
This summary will outline these situations by region, ordering regions from least to most likely to see an intervention.
