This mission directive implements Air Force Policy Directive (AFPD) 38-1, Manpower and
Organization. Its purpose is to define the mission, command structure, and responsibilities of
Eighth Air Force (8 AF). This publication applies to Headquarters, 8 AF. This publication does
not apply to Air Reserve Component units. This publication may not be supplemented or further
implemented/extended. Refer recommended changes and questions about this publication to the
office of primary responsibility using AF Form 847, Recommendation for Change of
Publication; route AF Forms 847 from field units through the appropriate functional chain of
command. Ensure all records generated as a result of processes prescribed in this publication
adhere to Air Force Instruction (AFI) 33-322, Records Management and Information
Governance Program, and are disposed of in accordance with the Air Force Records Disposition
Schedule, which is located in the Air Force Records Information Management System.
