SSG XXXXXXXXX
Headquarters, United States Army Troop Command-Korea
My name is XXXXXXXXX and I was born October 6, 1982 on March Air
Force Base, California. My wonderful parents, Stella and Leon Griggs, raised me in both
Highland and San Bernardino California. My father was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for
15 years before getting out and raising his family. I graduated from Cajon High School
and attended the following colleges San Bernardino Community College, Texas Tech
University Health Sciences Center and Minneapolis Art Institute.
I joined the military at age 17 and attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South
Carolina in July 2000. I traveled to Fort Lee, Virginia for my advanced individual
Training (AIT) for MOS 77W Water Treatment Specialist (now MOS 92W) in October
2000. During AIT, I volunteered to go to Airborne Training in February 2001 at Fort
Benning, Georgia. My first permanent duty station was Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia
assigned to the 559
th
Quartermaster Battalion, 512
th
Quartermaster Company in March
2001. I deployed to Egypt in September 2001 for a peace time training exercise called
Bright Star. I assisted in setting up and operating the water supply for the armed
forces of different countries and supported the laundry and bath, local hospital, drinking
water and dining facilities.
I deployed for the first time to combat with the 512th Qm. Co. from September 2002 –
August 2003. I was stationed at Camp Dogwood outside Baghdad during in support of
Operation Enduring Freedom. During this deployment, I performed my water treatment
specialist duties as well as serve as the mail clerk for my company. While deployed, I
reenlisted for four years, reclassified to MOS 92Y (Supply), and selected Fort Lewis, WA
as my duty station of choice.
In April 2004 I went back to Fort Lee, VA to re-class to MOS 92Y before my next
assignment at 1/25 Infantry Bde, 2-8 Field Artillery Bn, Fort Lewis, WA. I deployed
from September 2004 - September 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During
my deployment, I served as the Bn S4 NCOIC (a SFC position) and temporarily as the
2/8 Field Artillery Liaison. I successfully maintained accountability of over 2 billion
dollars worth of equipment over the duration of the deployment. During this deployment,
I was recognized by the Battalion Commander for administering emergency first aid to an
Iraqi civilian family in a tragic car accident and the CSM Coin for Excellence for
operating the S4 Shop as an SGT/E5.
I am currently assigned to HHC, 8
th
United States Army as the Supply NCOIC. I
supervise 15 Soldiers and account for over 15 million dollars worth of equipment.
My short term goals are to become a member of the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy
Club and complete my associate degree. My long tern goals are to attain the rank of
Sergeant Major, receive a Master in Psychology and to continue to teach my Soldiers
how to be the best at being a Supply Technician.
I believe that I would be a good candidate for the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club
because I strive for the best with everything that I do. I strive to exceed the standard and
set the example for junior leaders. I am determined and very confident that every soldier
that receives good leadership and mentorship can achieve and exceed the standards also.
I believe that I will represent the prestigious club by continuing to volunteer to assist my
community and lending a helping hand to those in need.
