Dear Sir or Madam:
I was ordered to activity duty with the U.S. Military on __________________. (A copy of my
military orders is enclosed.) Therefore, pursuant to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA),
please suspend my contract for cellular service. The SCRA, 50 USCS Appx § 535 provides for the
suspension of any Servicemember’s contract.
The SCRA provides for the suspension of cellular phone contract without fees or penalties
based on a Servicemember’s length of activation. It defines “Fees and penalties” as including service
charges, renewal charges, fees, or any other charges with respect to a debt. The SCRA requires you
to forgive fees and penalties that would otherwise be incurred if I were not on active duty. If you do
not comply with the SCRA, you will be held responsible for any damages I suffer.
Please update your records to show that the contract has been suspended as per this request.
