PERFORMANCE SPECIF ICATION
GREASE, WIRE ROPE - EXPOSED GEAR
This specification is approv ed for use by all Departments and Agencies
of the Department of Defense.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope
. This specification cove rs corrosion resistant extern ally
applied grease for use on wire ropes and exposed gears of hoists, winches ,
cranes, shovels, dredge s, and other similar equipment.
1.2 Classificatio n
. Two types of grease are specified: a Type I for
general applicatio n and an environmentally preferabl e Type II for applications
where potential dischar ge to the environment is greater.
2. APPLICABLE DOCUME NTS
2.1 General
. The documents listed in this sectio n are specified in
sections 3 and 4 of this specification. This section does not includ e
documents cited in other sections of this specif ication or recommended for
additional informa tion or as examples. While every effort has been made to
ensure the completeness of this list, docum ent users are cautioned that they
