The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is one of the
world’s premier public engineering, design and construction
management agencies. USACE includes

Water Resources
USACE is responsible for the Inland Marine Transportation System
(IMTS). The IMTS includes more than 12,000 miles of waterways
throughout the United States. It is host to hundreds of dams, locks,
hydroelectric sites, and other facilities. It functions like an “inland
marine highway” for barges and other boats. There are a variety
of occupations involved in the operations and maintenance of the
navigation locks and dams throughout the IMTS.

Lock & Dam Operators are responsible for operating
navigation equipment and machinery that allow river traffic to pass
safely through the lock, and maintaining required water levels.
Lock & Dam Equipment Mechanics are responsible for the
repair of navigation lock and dam equipment and machinery and the
maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds and structures related
to the operation of the locks and dams.
Floating Plant & Repair Crew positions are responsible
for major maintenance of the navigation lock and dam equipment
and machinery.
