MEMORANDUM FOR SEE DISTRIBUTION
SUBJECT: Policy Letter #24 – Use of Cell Phones by Initial Entry Training (IET) Soldiers
1. Reference. TRADOC Regulation 350-6, Enlisted 350-6, Enlisted Initial Entry Training (IET)
Policies and Administration, May 2003.
2. Purpose. To establish and prescribe policy on the use of cell phones for IET soldiers.
3. Applicability. This policy applies to all IET soldiers assigned to the 23d Quartermaster
Brigade.
4. Background. In accordance with the reference above, IET soldiers may be allowed to use cell
phones.
5. Concept. The use of telephones, to include non-cellular and cellular, during IET is a
privilege. The following guidance is provided.
a. The IET soldiers will be allowed to use cellular phones during personal time, on the
weekends and while on pass. Soldiers will not walk on streets and sidewalks while using cell
phones. Soldiers will not use or carry cell phones to formation, training, or class. Use of cell
phones during duty hours and after bed check is strictly prohibited.
b. Commanders will establish supplemental guidance to include security and accountability
of cell phones. However, the individual soldier is solely responsible for safeguarding their cell
phone.
6. This policy supersedes Policy Letter #24, dated 14 November 2003.
