MEMORANDUM FOR LETHAL REAR DETACHMENT COMMANDER AND OIC
SUBJECT: LETHAL RDC and OIC Initial Counseling
1. Purpose. To provide my initial intent and discussion points for counseling as the LETHAL Rear
Detachment Commander and OIC during 1-168 IN’s deployment ISO OEF
2. General. As the Rear detachment Commander and OIC, you hold an incredibly important position in
ensuring our families are taken care of while the LETHAL Battalion is deployed. No other position can
have more impact on the Bn as we redeploy, positive or negative. You and I must be synchronized on my
intent and communication. You must understand my intent and design rear detachment operations and
training programs that accomplish this intent. If it does not make sense, let me know.
3. Specific. Duties and Responsibilities.
RATED OFFICER: MAJ (First Mi. Last)
PRINCIPLE DUTY TITLE: Rear Detachment Commander AOC: 11A00
Rear Detachment Commander of an 812 Soldier Infantry Rifle Battalion, consisting of 3 Infantry Rifle Co,
1 Weapons Co, FSC and HHC capable of world-wide deployment, and of conducting combat and COIN
operations upon arrival. Responsible for the training, administrative, logistical, family readiness, strength
maintenance and replacement operations support of the battalion’s rear detachment. Responsible for the
planning and execution of all rear detachment operations, task organizing the rear detachment, and
supervising the execution of the battalion’s rear detachment training strategy.

operations upon arrival. Responsible for assisting the rear detachment commander in the training,
administrative, logistical, family readiness, strength maintenance and replacement operations support of
the battalion’s rear detachment. Responsible for assisting in the planning and execution of all rear
detachment operations, task organizing the rear detachment, and supervising the execution of the
battalion’s rear detachment training strategy. As Rear Detachment Battalion Officer-in-Charge, tasked
with leading day-to-day operations for the rear detachment in the absence of the rear detachment
commander.
