DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY
APVR-ABNB-D-CO 20 August 2007
MEMORANDUM FOR COMMANDER, XXXXX
SUBJECT: Release from Ordnance Branch for XXXXXXXX (SSN 0000000)
1. 1LT XXXXXXXX would best serve the Army as an Infantryman. Accordingly, I ask that he be released
from his branch detail in order to pursue a lifetime of service as an Infantry officer.
2. 1LT XXXXXXXX distinguished himself as the best lieutenant in the company. He served as my
second platoon leader for ten months and then assumed the Executive Officer position in August. 1LT
XXXXX never failed me and was continually given the most difficult missions. XXXXX developed TTPs
used throughout the company for counter IEDs and was responsible for killing eight IED emplacers and
wounding at least four more. Additionally, incoming platoon leaders across the battalion watch Apache
footage of XXXX expertly controlling aircraft as an example of the standard.
3. I do not doubt that all branches need officers like 1LT XXXX. However, his strong attributes,
demonstrated potential, and exemplary performance lend himself most toward the Infantry branch.
Additionally, he desires very strongly to maintain his Infantry branch affiliation. We would be doing both
the service member and the Army a disservice if we allowed 1LT XXXXX to leave the Infantry.
4. If there are any questions, please contact me at (907) XXXXXX or by email at
XXXXXXXX@us.army.mil.
