SUBJECT: Settlement and Payment of Claims Under 31 U.S.C. 3701 and 3721, "The Military
Personnel and Civilian Employees' Claims Act of l964"

1. REISSUANCE AND PURPOSE
Pursuant to reference (a), this Directive reissues reference (b) and establishes the delegation of
authority for settlement and payment of claims under reference (a).
2. APPLICABILITY
This Directive applies to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Military Departments, the
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Inspector
General of the Department of Defense, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all
other organizational entities in the Department of Defense (hereafter referred to collectively as
the "DoD Components").
3. POLICY
It is DoD policy that claims filed under reference (a) shall be processed and, if appropriate,
administratively settled pursuant to this Directive.
