Defense for Personnel and Readiness
Purpose: In accordance with the authority in DoD Directive (DoDD) 5124.02, this issuance:
• Establishes policy, assigns responsibilities, and provides procedures for the organization,
management, and implementation of CMT required of all Service members.
• Establishes CMT requirements that support readiness and provide the Military Departments
increased flexibility to train ready and lethal forces.
• Establishes and provides direction for the DoD Common Military Training Working Group
(CMTWG) to publicize new CMT requirements and periodically review and recommend updates to
existing CMT requirements in coordination with lead proponent heads.
