1. Purpose.
Under the authority of references (a) and (b),
this instruction:
a. Establishes the overarching Department of the Navy (DON)
policy for accountability and management policy of General
Equipment (GE). The list of associated references are in
enclosure (1).
b. Assigns roles and responsibilities within the DON for
accountability and management all DON GE (see enclosure (2)).
c. Aligns DON policies for GE with Federal regulations,
Federal accounting standards, and Department of Defense (DoD)
and DON policies for property accountability and management.
d. Provides a framework for financial and physical
accountability and management of GE to support warfighter
readiness, financial reporting, and auditability requirements.
e. Establishes standard taxonomy for GE (see enclosures (3)
through (5)).
