This mission directive (MD) implements policy and guidance in Air Force Instruction (AFI) 38-
101, Manpower and Organization. Its purpose is to prescribe unit mission, command
relationship, and responsibilities of the 1st Air Force (1 AF). This mission directive applies to 1
AF and subordinate active duty units and personnel, and those assigned or attached Air Force
Reserve (AFRC) and Air National Guard (ANG) units and personnel or mobilized members
performing federal missions. Ensure that all records created as a result of processes prescribed in
this publication are maintained in accordance with (IAW) AFI 33-322, Records Management
and Information Governance Program, and disposed of IAW the Air Force Records Information
Management System Records Disposition Schedule. Refer recommended changes and questions
about this publication to the Office of Primary Responsibility (OPR) using AF Form 847,
Recommendation for Change of Publication; route AF Forms 847 from the field through the
appropriate functional chain of command. This publication may not be supplemented. The
authorities to waive wing/unit level requirements in this publication are hereby identified as T-2.
See DAFI 33-360, Publications and Forms Management, for a description of the authorities
associated with the Tier numbers. Submit requests for waivers through the chain of command to
the appropriate Tier waiver approval authority.
