This mission directive (MD) implements policy guidance in Air Force Policy Directive (AFPD)
38-1, Manpower and Organization. Its purpose is to prescribe the mission, command
relationship, responsibilities, and organization of the 18 AF. It applies to the HQ Eighteenth Air
Force (18 AF). It applies to Air Mobility Command (AMC) effective upon the date of signature.
This publication applies to the Air National Guard upon mobilization. This publication does not
apply to Air Force Reserve Command Units. This publication may not be supplemented or
further implemented/extended. Refer recommended changes and questions about this publication
to the Office of Primary Responsibility (OPR) using the AF Form 847, Recommendation for
Change of Publication; route AF Form 847s from the field through the appropriate functional’s
chain of command. Compliance items in this publication are T-2. Ensure that all records created
as a result of processes prescribed in this publication are maintained of in accordance with Air
Force Manual (AFMAN) 33-363, Management of Records, and disposed of IAW the Air Force
Records Information Management System (AFRIMS) Records Disposition Schedule (RDS). See
Attachment 1 for list of references and abbreviations.
SUMMARY OF CHANGES
This document updates, clarifies, and streamlines the Eighteenth Air Force (18 AF) mission,
functional statements, and organizational structure. Major changes include: delineation of
responsibilities, realignment of the 618th Air Operations Center (Tanker Airlift Control Center)
under Air Mobility Command (AMC), and realignment of the component Air Force Forces
(AFFOR) warfighter staff from 18 AF to AMC.
