PREVENTIVE MEDICINE MEASURES (PMM)
for
COMPANY-SIZE UNITS
ESSENTIAL COMMANDER TASKS PRIOR TO DEPLOYMENT
• Know the unit mission.
• Know the medical threat to the unit.
• Assure unit preventive medical supplies are available and current.
• Select and train a unit field sanitation team (FST).
• Assure each soldier is trained in PMM.
• Enforce PMM using the sanitation team and unit leaders.
ESSENTIAL LEADERSHIP TASKS IN THE OPERATIONS AREA
• Ensure unit leaders are supervising the FST food, water, and
garbage operations.
• Assist the commander to inspect food, water, and
garbage operations.
• Enforce PMM by all unit members.
• Monitor construction of waste disposal facilities.
• Provide PMM training to each soldier.
• Enforce application of pesticides and monitor for reapplication.
ESSENTIAL FIELD SANITATION TEAM TASKS
• Inspect water containers and trailers.*
• Disinfect water supplies.*
• Check unit water supply for chlorine.*
• Inspect unit field food operations.*
• Inspect unit waste disposal operations.*
• Control arthropods and other animals in the unit area.*
• Train unit personnel in PMM.*
• Monitor status of PMM In unit.*
* ALL UNIT LEADERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO PERFORM THESE TASKS.
