Use/Relationship: The Container Design Retrieval System (CDRS) Search Request will be
used to search the Department of Defense (DoD) computerized CDRS data base. This
system is maintained by the Air Force Packaging Facility at Wright-Patterson AFB,
http://www.wpafb.af.mil/units/afptef/index.asp in order to identify any applicable containers or
designs in the Government System. Its use will preclude the design of new specialized
containers when suitable ones are already in the system.
a. This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format, content, and intended use
information for the data deliverable resulting from the work task described in the solicitation.
b. This DID supersedes DI-PACK-80683B.
Requirements:
1. Reference documents. None.
2. Format. The CDRS Search Request shall be in the contractor’s format. A CDRS Search
Request Fill-In Form is available on the website above.
3. Content. The CDRS Search Request shall include, when available, the following
information. The information furnished to CDRS shall be as complete as practical.
Supplementary rough sketches or drawings of the item to be packaged shall be included
when available.
a. Requester’s name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address.
b. Date request submitted.
c. Government agency supported (contractor only).
d. Government contract number and government contract officer’s name, address,
telephone, number and e-mail address (contractor only).
e. The nomenclature, part number and national stock number (NSN) of the item or items to
be packaged.
f. Dimensions of item (length, width, height, or diameter).
g. Item weight.
h. Item fragility.
i. Department of Transportation hazardous class.
j. Item packaging constraints.
k. Container special handling requirements (handles, lift rings).
